This year, the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics, PLRI celebrates its 10th anniversary as a joint institute of the Technische Universität Braunschweig, TUBS, and of Hannover Medical School, MHH, two leading universities in Germany. Comprising an institute of technology and a medical school PLRI is located in one of Europe's most research-intensive regions and offers excellent opportunities. PLRI collaborates in interdisciplinary projects with health care centers, research institutes, enterprises and public organizations in order to shape the future of healthcare and medicine. The activities range from the local level, as with institutions in Braunschweig and Hannover, through regional, national, and global levels involving the World Health Organization (WHO). PLRI teaches students in medicine, in computer science, and in related educational programs. Currently, three full time professors for medical informatics have formed PLRI as one of the largest centers of medical informatics in Germany – as well as in Europe, which is committed to this key and exciting field at the foundation of biomedicine and healthcare.
The Hannover Medical School, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, MHH is one of Germany's leading medical centers and holds the national top position in funding for research in medicine. 7,500 full time employees from 99 nations serve more than 60,000 and 460,000 in- and outpatient cases per year, respectively. MHH offers first-class medicine in patient care, research, and teaching. Altogether, 3,500 students are enrolled in the medical and dental fields including 350 PhD candidates. The main research activities focus on transplantation and regeneration, infection research and immunology, as well as on biomedical technology and implants.
The University of Braunschweig, Institute of Technology, Technische Universität Braunschweig , TUBS is Germany’s Institute of Technology with the oldest roots, going back to 1745, when its predecessor was founded (Carolo Wilhelmina). The probably most well-known student of this time is the famous scientist Carl Friedrich Gauss. Today, TUBS has more than 20,000 students in social and natural sciences (including medical informatics) as well as all fields of engineering. There are more than 400 cooperating universities all over the world, 250 within Europe.
